Happy MLK Day, Mrs. Rice....

I can't think of a more fitting tribute to the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. than the appointment of Condoleeza Rice as Secretary of State. This incredibly woman, raised in Birmingham, Alabama - center stage in the race wars of the 1960's, will be the second African American Secretary of State in our history and the first Black woman Secretary, thanks to her own accomplishments and the wisdom of the Bush administration.

I find it interesting that George W. Bush, a man the liberal sector attacks endlessly as an enemy to minorities, has been the first President in American history to appoint a Black Secretary of State, Colin Powell (who Rice will replace) and Rice herself, a Black woman, as National Security Advisor. Bush is now preparing to add Alberto Gonzales, a Latino, to the mix in the position of U.S. Attorney General, one again, the first in history. And in the near future, with the unfortunate illness of Chief Justice Renquist, it appears that the Bush administration might support Clarence Thomas, the second Black Supreme Court Justice, for the position.

Just watch as these individuals come up for appointment. The party of "sympathy," the party supposedly built on it's love and support of minorities and their "plight," the Democratic Party, lovers of the repressed masses, will attack these candidates right and left. The party that bases itself on political correctness, giving minorities extra help, extra social assistance, paying reparations and affirmative action would rather have a white liberal in these positions than a Black or Hispanic conservative. How hypocritical.

I find it interesting that Bill Clinton, poster child for and still leader of the Demoratic party, in eight years as President never once placed a minority in a position of power! And Bush is the race hater.

Who really cares???

I don't know about you, but I couldn't care less about Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt's married life! Apparently, the relationship of these two mega-superstars of untold Hollyweird fame has hit the rocks and as far as the media world is concerned, modern-American life as we know it might as well be over!

Now, I have nothing against either of these two individuals and, in fact, enjoy their acting. But the frenzy surrounding their "supposed" marital conflicts is absolutely out-of-hand and does nothing but minimalize and side-line the actual news of the day; like, maybe, over 150,000 people dead in southeast Asia, the upcoming elections in Iraq and the service and sacrifice of our men and women in the middle-east and around the world.

I understand the appeal of retreating from the "real world," complete with suicide bombings and tidal waves, into the fluffy world of entertainment and the fantasy lives of celebrities, but this is bordering on absurd.

Consider this; how much time do Brad or Jen spend reading, watching and obsessing about YOUR love life (or lack there of)? Nada. Why then do we waste precious hours of our lives doing just that? It just doesn't make sense.
