A commie for Christmas...

Ah, Christmas, the holiest and happiest time of the year. A time to spend with family and friends, thank God for our blessings, celebrate the birth of His Son, Jesus and share gifts with one another. Oh, and I almost forgot, canonize one of the most-heinous communist party leaders in history!

As you’re out and about searching for a gift for that certain someone, remember to thank merchandisers like Anchor Blue, Hot Topic, Burlington Coat Factory and Mainland Skate and Surf for the opportunity to give your loved ones a little piece of Marxist memorabilia! Khrushchev slippers? Mao boxer shorts? Gorbachev knit cap? No way, the hip new icon for this season isn’t Castro, it’s his good friend, personal doctor and fellow mass-murderer Che Guevara!

That’s right, for a mere $18 you too can give the gift that says, “Off to the firing squad with you,” this Christmas!

As a 22-year-old student, I couldn’t be more ashamed when I see the apparel being modeled by many of my fellow students around campus and being pushed as hip and chic this holiday season. As an attendee of a school that many people refer to as “Berkeley North,” Western Washington University, I’ve seen fair share of homage paid to Guevara. It has always sickened me when I see these individuals bestow sainthood on this monster, responsible not only for the communist takeover and enslavement of Cuba as Castro’s chief executioner, but, some historians believe, the murder of hundreds of innocents in Cuba, Bolivia and the Congo, personally.

I understand the ramifications of the freedom of speech bestowed upon us in those immortal words of the First Amendment, but please. Would you allow your children to cloth themselves with the black-and-white visage of, say, Ted Bundy? How about Hitler number-two man Hermann Goering? Stalin? Lenin? But, awe, come-on Mom and Dad, Che is so COOL!

Yeah, so cool that Hollywood decided to make a movie about his early life entitled The Motorcycle Diaries. It received a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival. Big surprise, I know.

It never ceases to amaze me, what we as Americans are willing to put up with in this country. It was not that log ago, within my lifetime, that Soviet power was the biggest threat to the existence of this country. And now, due to apathy or political correctness, we allow our young people to dress themselves in clothing that pays homage to man who, according to Logan Darrow of Freestar Media in Los Angeles,

“was a Marxist soldier who aided the Cuban revolution (and) advocated the philosophy of communism which is responsible for over 100 million murders, and personally supervised the executions of scores of people himself.”

On one tee-shirt I spotted, the maker actually had the gall to put the phrase “Resist Oppression” below Che’s photo. Yeah, tell that to the millions enslaved, killed and persecuted under the communist regimes around the globe.

Wake up America, say no to your children when they come home with this kind of filth. And maybe refuse to spend your hard earned cash at any vendor that sells Che merchandise.

I’m sure that many of the kids buying these shirts, hats and berets have no idea the kind of individual that they are outfitting themselves in, but we as leaders and parents have a responsibility to inform them. And that means first informing ourselves about the horrors of communism and the atrocities this man was responsible for.
